After that experience with network marketing I put that part of my life on hold and finished my university education. During this time I became convinced that building a business and becoming an entrepreneur was the route I should follow to taking control of my financial future. I finished my bachelors degree and saw the light and realized I needed to start a business in the health and wellness industry. I set out to change an industry with little to no experience marketing my own weight loss system. I was able through hard work and terrible hours to create a business that provided income for my family. I enjoyed the process, but realize what it would take to really build this business into a six and seven figure income. I also built this business completely on my own with no help from anyone else. It was actually a pretty lonely experience. I was introduced to a company during this time to a company called ACN.
ACN was a new experience for me. I was recruited by a friend and given a presentation by the big wig that was just a few years older than me. When I say he was a big wig I mean he was making in excess of $50,000 a year. That is pretty amazing and he had created a team that functioned really effeciently. Every leader that got involved was trained the same way and functioned very closely to the way he functioned. ACN is a network marketing company, but functioned much more like francises than just a bunch of confused people running around. I was amazed by the hype and support I had as I worked with this team. I worked very hard and found a bunch of people that wanted to build a business. I brought just as many or more people than the other people that were just getting started.
So why didn't this work out for me? There were just to many hoops to jump through to make money. I brought in from what I could figure about $10,000 into the company and after two months didn't make any money. As I have thought back I believe I might have still been with this company if I had just made money. Now I really liked working with the people I worked with, but I started spending more and more time away from my family. The idea was to spend more time with my family. I also was losing income from my primary business. A home based business should be easy to market because there is a unique selling point and the people getting involved should be rewarded as well.

My First Home Based Business Experience
To pick up where I left off on the last post. I start my first home based business in the summer of 2003. I got involved because the company I was interning for was starting a project with a company called NexagenUSA. Some of the leaders of the company were trying to start a radio campaign to sell weight loss patches. The VP of Sales and Marketing for the company I was working for made a deal with these leaders that they would take the calls if they could make commissions on the sales of these products and distributorships. I got involved because I was responsible for learning all about the company and the products. The VP wanted me to take a position in the network marketing company and be involved in the marketing of the products. I wasn't really into to weight loss patches, but it looked like an opportunity to learn about the network marketing and weight loss industry.
We were wildly successful with this business, but the reasons we were successful were much different than we initially suspected. First of all the marketing campaign done by the leaders to produce leads and sales were unsuccessful. We never saw one lead from them. What happened instead was the VP got a group of people together because of the supposed lead generation and they all started working. We added a programmer that showed us this new marketing idea called google adwords. Remember this was in the early days of google and adwords was virtually brand new. We quickly started to get leads and had people joining left and right. Through this marketing campaign we brough on a mid level network marketer and he started to develop a team that grew quickly. The leaders that was working with the VP were very helpful in the process and did all of the sales calls with my team. They were very professional and were very involved in the business and made themselves available whenever I needed them. At the end of the day the product wasn't good enough and the team fell apart. I also had no clue what I was doing and really didn't know the full implications of the business.

I have finally come to the resolution that I am going to start telling the world about my experience looking for a home based business that I could potential make a six figure income doing. I have been searching for the last six years and have had some major success and some major failures. I understand that finding the right home based business for you often times means that it is essential for you to gain the skill to make a home based business work. I hope through recounting my experience and talking about what I have learned that I will better be able to prepare myself for the opportunity to build a business that will be sustaining.
Just to let you know a little more about me I want to recount why I am trying to build a home based business. When I finished High School I decided that I wanted to provide something to the world and not just make money. I decided that I wanted to be a Doctor, Lawyer, or some worthy profession that had security and the potential to help others. I quickly realized through my university education that many of the worlds problems were going on solved because of big business and lack of education to the general population. Three areas I saw that were glaring weaknesses was the education on personal finance, entrepreneurship, and health. I set out from that point on to create a business or find a home based business that incorporated one of these three areas or all of them into a business that really would help others.
